Couples Matching Style ‘How-To’

Matching t-shirts with sweet slogans can be a cutesy Sunday outfit, but how do we coordinate our wardrobe with our significant other? Want to match but don’t want to look like you’re attached at the hip? Then we’ve got the answers. There are plenty of celebrity couples absolutely smashing this trend and using them as inspiration can be a great start for coordinating your looks.

Colour Palette

Picking the same colour palette is a great base for your outfit. By coordinating a black dress with white shoes and accessories you can easily match your mans black suit and white shirt. Or if you want to take it to the next level, take some inspiration from Ellen and Portia who slay their matching pantsuits.

Matching Tie or Pocket Square

The easiest way to coordinate your formal outfits is to match your mans tie to the colour of your dress. Take a note from 2009 Justin Beiber by using a tie, pocket square or bowtie in the same colour. Ties in almost every colour are available from any men’s formal store, for example YD or Roger David. If you can’t find your colour, you can always save a piece of fabric from your dress or buy a small piece of fabric in the same colour to make a pocket square.

Matchy Matchy

If you want to take your ‘couple-look’ to the next level, then matching outfits is the look for you. Make everyone jealous of your highly coordinated look by going shopping together and choosing the same outfit. We suggest sticking to plain colours and avoiding patterns, as remember, there will be two of you wearing it! Also use this look for your girl gang – like Toke Makinwa and Munachi Abi -, and make that fashion statement!
